The Butterfly Effect
Change one thing change everything

For I have defeated illness and I am back doing what I love doing; reviewing movies. This week on the chopping block is Ashton Kutchers new thriller, The Butterfly Effect. The premise of the movie is that as a child Evan Treborn(Kutcher) has blackouts and when he wakes up he can't remember anything. After experiencing some of these blackouts his mom takes him to get help and his shrink suggests he starts keeping a journal. This journal is almost like a unaccredited character as it plays almost as big a role as Kutcher. He writes things down in his journal and he usually writes down that something was about to happen but than he blacked out and can't remember anything. During these times he goes through traumatic things that he conveniently blacked out during. He then hangs out with his friends Kayla(Amy Smart) and Tommy, they hang out when they are seven and then flash forward to seven years later, they have become a bunch of smoking, drinking bunch of delinquent kids. They decide to do a harmless act of vandalism that ends horribly wrong and Evan blacked out during it. Won't go to much more into the back story because I don't want to ruin any of this great movie for you. Flash forward another seven years and Evan has goneseven years without a blackout. He is about to hook up with some random girl and she discovers his journals, he reads from the journal and suddenly he is in the time frame when he wrote it. He has discovered that he can go back in time and change things. However when he goes back to change one thing everything changes, this leads to some odd alternate realities. This is a great movie overall and it deserves to be taken seriously. Kutchers' acting is spot on and many of the child actors are also very well done. If you are a fan of Thrillers, Sci Fi or anything in between go see this movie. Take your girlfriend or boyfriend with you as it is one of those hold on tight type movies. Great movie and that is all you really have to say.
